Pastor Cary E. Johnson, III founded and became Pastor of New Life Church, in Sterling Virginia in June 1999. Pastor Cary E. Johnson, III models this ministry after two key scriptures:
- “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God (Acts 20:24 NLT)
- “…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:36-39 NKJV)
Pastor Cary E. Johnson, III has a passion for preparing and equipping the people of God for effective ministry. His heart’s desire is that we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
In 1988, Pastor Johnson graduated from St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, with a B.S. in Business Administration. He continued his studies in 1996 at Virginia Union University School of Theology in Richmond, Virginia, were he received a Master of Divinity. To sharpen his proficiency in the word of God and to be better equipped to serve as a chaplain and spiritual counselor to the community at large, in May 2013 Pastor Johnson earned a Doctorate in Practical Theology (Pastoral Care and Counseling) at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.
Pastor Johnson received his ministerial training from his father who pastored for over 40 years and from the late Lenwood Graham of First Baptist Church of Merrifield, where he was licensed and ordained into the Gospel Ministry. Subsequently, Pastor Johnson received additional training at Quioccasin Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, where he directed a vibrant youth ministry under the direction of Dr. Andrew Mosely. Pastor Johnson is dedicated to spreading the Good News to all nations. He has traveled and ministered abroad in Haiti and Africa.
Pastor Johnson currently serves as chaplain with the Capital Hospice of Northern Virginia. As chaplain, Pastor Johnson provides patients and families with spiritual and emotional support with end-of-life decisions. Pastor Johnson views this occupation as part of his “calling” and considers himself blessed to be of service to those who are confined to their homes, hospitals or assisted living facilities.
Pastor Johnson was married to Leslie Johnson in December 2007. He is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia and is the eighth of ten children. He is the son of Reverend Doctor Cary Johnson, II and the late Victoria Shannon Johnson.
